Why did I receive a Notice of Registration Suspension from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYS DMV)?
-
You received a Notice of Registration Suspension because a vehicle registered to you incurred three (3) or more toll violations, at one of the toll authorities listed above, on different days in an a 5-year period, or because a commercial motor vehicle registered to you incurred $200 or more in toll violations in a 5-year period. As of the date on the Notice, payment for these toll violations was not received from you, or you have not successfully disputed the violations.
-
I don’t want my registration to be suspended. What do I do?
-
You may pay the amount due prior to the suspension effective date listed on the NYS DMV’s Notice of Registration Suspension. If payment is received at least five (5) days prior to the suspension effective date, the pending registration suspension will be cleared. If payment is received fewer than five (5) days prior to the suspension effective date, your registration may still be suspended until your payment is processed and the suspension is cleared with the NYS DMV. Visit www.dmv.ny.com to check the status of your registration before driving your vehicle.
Please contact the E-ZPass Customer Service Center to resolve outstanding toll violations. You must contact the appropriate Tolling Authority listed on your Notice of Registration Suspension.

Why did my vehicle incur toll violations?
- Toll violations are issued for the following reasons:
- The vehicle, for which you are the registered owner, was driven across a toll bridge, tunnel, or roadway without a valid E-ZPass Tag or without paying the toll as required; OR
- The Toll Bills, which were mailed to you as the registered vehicle owner, were not paid.
-
Where can I find the amount due for the toll violations?
-
The amount you owe is shown or each toll violation notice issued to you and the Agency to whom the toll violations are owed. You may also contact the E-ZPass Customer Service Center at 718-313-9414 to speak with a customer service specialist for information on your outstanding violations. A listing of the unpaid violations may be sent to you upon your request.

Could I have other toll violations that are not included with the registration suspension request, but that could lead to another suspension?
-
Yes, the NYS DMV requires a minimum of 3 violations within a 5-year period to allow a request to suspend your vehicle registration.
-
I moved and did not update my address with the NYS DMV. What can I do?
-
If you change your residence, you are required under New York State Law to update your address with the NYS DMV within 10 days of moving. Visit www.dmv.ny.gov to check the status of your registration. You also need to notify the NYS DMV of your address change.
-
I am not sure these toll violations are my responsibility. What can I do?
-
You may dispute the toll violations if you believe you are not responsible for them. To do this, contact the E-ZPass Customer Service center to speak with a customer service specialist regarding your outstanding toll violations and ask for further explanation regarding the dispute process.
